Installation instructions
for Kyburz® insulating flanges

1.  Immediately check the insulating flanges for potential transport damages after
     receiving. Only defect-free parts are to be applied.

2.  Only qualified personnel may do the mounting.

3.  The flange sealing or weld-on ends must be thoroughly cleaned with compatible solvent.

4.  Before mounting check the pipes for impurities and foreign bodies and if needed,
     clean them carefully.

5.  Please make sure that no dirt or other foreign bodies may find their way into the pipelines
     or the insulation union during installation.

6.  Make sure that the insulation joint is free of mechanical tensions and transverse torque
     when installed into the pipeline, since it is not constructed to absorb such forces and torques.

7.  Be careful to use screws with big washers, otherwise the insulation could be damaged.

8.  Remove the spark gap during welding works, because it may be destroyed
     by vagrant welding currents.

9.  The welding can be done upwards or downwards by an authorized welder.

10. Choose welding technique and electrode depending on the material      
      of the pipeline or connection pipe.

11. After thorough checks of welding seams and pipelines (pressure test) the
      seams have to be secured by means of an electrically isolated coating.
      They must meet requirements of a protective insulation.

12. Because of the already integrated spark gap an additional one is not required.

13. After the installation the electrical dielectric strength and the
      electrical resistance
has to be checked.

14. Make sure that during assembly or welding no potential differences between
      rail and tank farm may occur. Due to potential separation between rail and
      tank farm differences in potential may arise between the line ends,
      which are not definable. That means: Take care of high voltages!
      Before disassembly or installation of insulation flanges the potential equalization
      must be grounded with an earth cable at least 16 mm².

Inspections and repairs
1. If possible, regular visual checks are strongly recommended..
2. The inspections of electrical separation is operator dependently performed.
3. An inspection after an overvoltage is absolutely mandatory,
    for example, following a lightning stroke.

In general, repair works may only be performed by the INRAG AG service or personnel trained by INRAG. Thus, it is guaranteed that repairs are appropriately undertaken, using original spare parts. Therefore, the warranty remains valid.
